These Are The Top 5 Workout Trends of 2018

Move over, wearable tech and sayonara strength training. Top trainer and exercise physiologist Drew Harrisberg shares his predictions for the hottest fitness fads in 2018.

1. Fitbit Cardio Tennis

A key workout trend emerging in 2018 is Fitbit Cardio Tennis, a high energy form of fitness that combines tennis drills with cardiovascular exercises, allowing you to get your step-count all while having a great time.

In conventional tennis, your step count is heavily influenced by your intensity, duration and skill level. The beauty of Fitbit Cardio Tennis is that you don’t have to be a tennis pro to get involved, you can participate and enjoy the activity as a complete beginner.

Fitbit Cardio Tennis incorporates other exercise drills and activities within the program which means you’re guaranteed a full body aerobic workout regardless of your level of experience, expertise or fitness level.

2. High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

HIIT is continuing to grow in 2018. The workouts are hard, fast, and extremely time-efficient making it an attractive workout option for those who have a busy schedule and are strapped for time. It was a huge trend in 2017 and the results continue to speak for themselves which is why it's here to stay.

3. Obstacle courses

Obstacle courses include tough mudder, spartan races and Ninja Warrior style training. Unlike conventional gym-style training, there’s no counting of reps or sets which is why it’s so appealing for those who aren’t sold on the gym environment. Obstacle courses are like playgrounds for grown-ups.

These activities aren’t just physically challenging but they require huge amounts of mental strength, patience, endurance and team =work. Oh and let’s not forget, they’re incredibly fun! Those who have tried them before are often hooked for life.

4. Calisthenics/bodyweight training

There’s something incredibly empowering about being able to get a quality workout anytime, anywhere with just your bodyweight. The workout scalability is endless. From beginner to advanced, the exercise selection is enormous and diverse. The real beauty about calisthenics is that the world is your gym and it encourages spending time outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine, which is therapeutic in itself.

In Aerial Yoga you perform a range of exercises and stretches suspended from a hammock. The workout styles can vary from very strenuous to more relaxing.
